I’m Scott from Chernobyl Studios, and I’m just like you: a home studio musician and mixing engineer. From the beginning of my journey, all I ever wanted was to have a big, massive, metal guitar tones and mixes that I could be proud of.

In 2013, I started to study mixing and tone crafting more seriously so I could bring this desire to life. What I didn’t know was that I was venturing into a world of conflicting information and secrecy. Maybe it sounds a bit dramatic, but how many times have you seen a video on YouTube that claimed you could “sound like the pros in minutes,” just to find out they have thousands of dollars in gear and plugins and really didn’t explain anything anyway? These videos never helped me get a better idea of how to create my guitar tones or better mixes.

I wasted money on plugins I didn’t need, followed advice that wasn’t helpful, and made every mistake you can think of multiple times over. 6 years of frustration later and I now know what it takes to create great amazing guitar tones and mixes.

My goal is to sift through the noise, filter out the nonsense, and create content that helps you avoid the years of struggle and frustration that I had to endure.

What if your course doesn’t cover the drum software I use?

The course covers loads of different drum VSTs, but even if yours is not among them, the principles shown will apply to all other VSTs as well and it should be easy to transfer the knowledge.

What if I don’t have some of the plugins or instruments used in the training?

Not to worry—all session files are included for you, to include bounced tracks of the orchestra in the situation where you aren’t able to replicate the same sounds. Additionally, all MIDI files are made available to you so that you can experiment with different sounds if you would like to do so.

What is the difference between Metal Drum Programming Mastery and Henning Pauly’s Complete Guide to Drum Programming?

Metal Drum Programming Mastery focuses on writing drum parts for death, black, and extreme styles of music while Henning Pauly’s course is focused on overall drum programming techniques for rock music. Also, in this course, Reaper 6 is the main DAW while Henning demonstrates his techniques in Cubase. Henning’s course is fantastic, but if you need to know how to write convincing blast beats, double bass, gravity blasts, and any manner of drum parts for extreme music, Metal Drum Programming Mastery is what you need.
