Overview

Pedal Tone Licks aren’t necessarily a set of notes to be played… instead, it’s an entire approach to playing notes.

Arpeggios with a pedal tone? Go for it.

Pentatonic runs with a pedal tone? Sweet.

Hell, play a scale with a pedal tone, why not?

In this course, you’ll learn how to utilize a pedal tone while other notes move around it to create unique and interesting passages and musical ideas.

Moreover, you’ll be introduced to various concepts that you can expand and experiment with that can help you find and develop your own unique voice with your guitar playing.

On Or Off the Beat?

Pedal notes can be played in many ways, and one of the easiest concepts Henning demonstrates is moving the pedal tone to the downbeat or the offbeat in a series of notes.

Also discussed with this section are various ways the notes can be played, be that with down picking, alternate picking, or played entirely with pull-offs and hammer-ons.

In classic Henning fashion, you’ll get a glimpse at a very famous rock riff that uses this exact concept to cut your teeth on.

Double & Triple Pedal Lines, Oh my

You don’t have to alternate pedal tones after each note played in a sequence… in fact, getting crazy is part of the process!

Another great concept Henning will familiarize you with is playing double or triple pedal notes in a note-picking sequence.

This will fire up your creative juices as it’ll show how you can incorporate motifs and other melodic ideas you may have and combine them within pedal tones.

Multiple Note Pedal Themes

If you thought pedal tones could only be played in a simplistic fashion or on one string… you’re in for a very pleasant surprise with this section!

Henning shows how you can create entire melodic passages by moving a single note within a series of three, four, and even five pedal note shapes. Sounds cool, huh?

You’ll immediately understand how you can adapt this to your own style and spice up your pedal tone licks.

Pedal Tone Arpeggios…?

You’ll conquer the ultra-simplistic approach to pedal tones, multiple different ways of picking and playing pedal tones, but you’ll also see how you can incorporate pedal tones in arpeggios.

This concept will prove to be a great way for you expand upon your pedal tone skills and create even more interesting, unique, and melodic phrases!
