I'm a passionate hobby musician. The only problem is that when it comes to being musically creative, my talent is close to zero! I'm basically the sprinter with two broken legs. I gave up on songwriting years ago because I found it tedious and either didn't know where to start or had an idea but got stuck when it came to turning it into a song. This course has helped me immensely! The approach could really come straight out of a textbook, you can tell that Henning has studied writing and production and that Raffa is a songwriter and teacher. In many of their videos, they use a kind of chalkboard where they write down the most important things. But they also show practically on the instrument what matters. It's wonderful! I've learned so much from this course that I don't really know what to tell you here. If I had to summarize it, I would probably highlight two points: 1. Even though I had some prior music theory knowledge, this course has really solidified that knowledge. Raffa and Henning mention so much interesting information incidental that you can't help but learn! And the (rather odd) humor is not lacking either, so you enjoy watching the content. In my case, I often do it in the evening on the couch simply because it's fun! 2. I was able to put together a kind of toolbox for myself in this course. It's like with everything: the more tools you have and master, the easier or more versatile it is to solve problems. I now have a whole bunch of ideas and "tricks" at my disposal when it comes to writing a song. Before, it was pure frustration for me! Now I feel like I can handle it!

It’s very well known that when it comes to songwriting, even the most experienced musicians in the world can struggle from time to time to get things done. There’s a lot of contributing factors than can influence our creative process in the best, but also, in the worst way. That’s why having this massive amount of knowledge available and organized in such a thoughtful way it’s a giant plus. Regardless of the music you listen to or the instruments you play, Henning and Rafa are incredibly knowledgeable, and they do a great job sharing their vast experience along this course, plus, we get to watch other songwriters sharing their creative process in a very relatable way. The dynamics of this course make it very enjoyable. It’ll help you overcome that barrier that stops your creative process and give you more tools to be a better overall musician.

I struggle with songwriting and structure and all that kinda stuff so I’ll reference it a lot going forward and maybe, just maybe, I’ll get that single released or the EP finished or that album done by next year. Let’s see if I can get it done!

I've only made it to the Different Harmonies section so far, but I already feel like songwriting has been demystified. I never considered myself creative before, but now songwriting is a concrete task that I can actually practice and get better at, rather than hope that inspiration will one day hit me

Meet Your Instructors - Henning Pauly & Rafael Cano

Henning has been writing songs for over 30 years now. He has written and produced a ton of albums. He studied Arranging and Sound Design at Berklee College of Music and graduated with honors (summa cum laude). He worked for 6 years in Los Angeles as a producer and jingle writer before moving back to Germany to continue as a producer before turning to his current adventures on his YouTube channel EytschPi42.

His own releases cover a wide range of styles, but he is best known for his progressive rock and metal work on albums from Frameshift (with James LaBrie and Sebastian Bach), Chain, Roswell Six (Steve Walsh from Kansas, Sass Jordan, Michael Sadler), Psychic for Radio, Shadow’s Mignon and Henning Pauly.

Rafael started writing his first songs more than 20 years ago. He is the band leader and singer of the indie rock band Campaign like Clockwork, with whom he won a lot of nationwide German band contests and played innumerable shows and festivals as well as a European tour.
Henning and Rafa met during the production of the Campaign like Clockwork album Neon For No One in 2008. They have worked, played, written, arranged and filmed together ever since. Their true friendship and equal enthusiasm for songwriting in all its forms make them a perfect screen team, providing you with just the right mix of in-depth knowledge and silly banter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours of instruction are included in the Complete Songwriting Course Bundle?

Over 52 hours. Yep. Over 50 years of combined real-life, professional experience have been distilled into 52 hours of lessons so that you don’t have to wait this long to give your songs the treatment they deserve.

How are Henning Pauly and Rafael Cano qualified to teach songwriting?

Great question. In short, Henning went to Berklee and did a double major in Contemporary Writing and Production as well as Music Synthesis, graduating summa cum laude (with highest distinction), and worked in LA for years writing jingles professionally and writing/producing/publishing albums with well-known musicians and vocalists. Rafael is an experienced and published songwriter, singer and bandleader. Both are insane music theory nerds.

Am I able to buy each section individually or do I need to purchase the whole bundle?

You can buy the entire bundle (the best deal), but you can absolutely buy each section individually. No problem.

Is this only for a certain style of music?

No. This course covers multiple genres of music: singer/songwriter, classic rock, metal, pop, Disney, musicals, jingles etc. All examples of these genres were written by Henning and Rafael themselves just to prove to you that the techniques and tools presented in this course actually work!

Do I need any prior knowledge to get something out of the course?

NO. This course is just as much for beginners as it is for experienced musicians. The latter can probably skip a few lessons, but we pick you up at the beginning and guide you all the way to the most complex concepts.

What if I get stuck or need help?

When you buy the course, you are invited to join a private Facebook and Discord group where you can join hundreds of other course owners and all our instructors to ask any questions you might have and find help. You can even show any progress you are making and ask for feedback!

How is the course delivered?

Once you have bought the course, you can stream at any time, right from our website on our custom platform which lets you keep track of your progress and interact with your instructor.
