Metal Bass Master
The Ultimate Guide to Mastering Metal Bass
Online Metal Bass Guitar Course by Rich Gray
Studio & Touring Bassist for Annihilator & Aeon Zen
Does This Sound Like You?
The Shadow Guitarist
You're holding down the low end, but you feel more like a second guitarist than a real bassist. You’re tired of just doubling riffs and want to own your sound in the band.
Pick vs. Fingers Paralysis
Everyone tells you to “just use what feels right,” but you want to actually master both techniques and know when to use them for maximum impact.
One-Speed Player
You can follow the root notes, sure. But switching things up? Adding flair? Locking in tight with the drums at high speeds? That’s where things start to fall apart.
Technique Roadblock
You know there’s more to bass than just fretting and plucking. But hammer-ons, slides, tapping, harmonics? You’re not confident using any of them in real songs.
Your Struggles Today vs. Your Success Tomorrow
Your Struggles Today 😔
Technique Uncertainty
"I don’t know if I should be using fingers or a pick and I’m not confident with either."
Just a Follower
"I’m basically just copying the guitar and it doesn’t feel like my part matters."
Timing Trouble
"My playing feels loose, especially when I try to lock in with the drums."
Same Riffs, Different Day
"I keep repeating the same patterns. everything I write sounds the same."
Articulation Overload
"Hammer-ons, slides, I don’t know how to use these without messing up."
Your Success Tomorrow 🚀
Dual-Wielding Mastery
"I switch effortlessly between pick and fingerstyle, depending on what the track needs."
Groove Commander
"I create powerful basslines that move the song and make the guitars sound better."
Rhythm Section Weapond
"I lock in with the drums like clockwork. My tone and timing are rock solid."
Creative Depth
"I’ve got endless ideas and tools to build exciting, heavy, and original riffs."
Pro-Level Technique
"I use advanced articulations to add emotion, dynamics, and flair to every performance."
What If You Could Finally Play Bass Like a True Metal Pro?

You’re no longer copying guitar riffs. You’re building the foundation of the track.

What’s Really Holding Your Bass Playing Back?
“Music begins with the rhythm section: bass and drums, and it is paramount that this foundation is rock solid, especially in metal!
Many musicians simply copy guitar parts on the bass but you can do so much more than this to become a world-class bassist.
Let me show you the true nature of the bass and how to maximize its potential. From technique to songwriting and everything in between, you’ll learn all there is to make you, the bassist, sound your most musical self.”

Success Stories
"Rich's creativity and approach to the instrument has really elevated our music. He came in and co-wrote all the music with me, as well as co-produced the record [For The Demented]. His background of classic thrash metal meets a newer “technical” metal style was the perfect combination for me."
- Jeff Waters (Annihilator)
"Rich lifts you up to the next level... "Working with Rich was a very constructive and pleasurable experience. Rich tries to get in your headspace and look at your wishes and audio preferences and then enhance those ideas. He has a lot of ideas of his own to bring to the table, but always in a way to lift your product to the next level and/or to give you the skills to do so, like a proper musician should be doing. Rich communicates clearly, is punctual and does his work in a professional manner. Highly recommended if you search for a pop, rock, metal musician and producer that will increase the quality of your work!"
- Tom de Wit - Musician, audio/vidoe producer, & label owner
"Rich is a world-class multi-instrumentalist with a self-evident knack for getting the best out of other musicians. He creates sonically immaculate music, arranged with great delicacy."
