Overview

Are you looking to create some classic rock songs, but really want to dive into the details of classic rock drummer?

Drum Programming in The Style of Classic Rock is what you need.

Henning Pauly sits down with a world-class drummer to figure out exactly what needs to be done to create the most realistic classic rock drum beats possible with drum software.

You’ll sit in as the grooves are demonstrated live by a real drummer and watch as Henning figures out how to re-create the grooves in the DAW.

You’ll go over several different styles of classic rock drums, and at the end of the course, will put all that knowledge to the test by recreating an entire song performed by Felix Lehrmann.

“Classic Rock, Really? Phft, c’mon, programming classic rock is literally the easiest thing ever!”

But is it, though?

Sure, AC/DC isn’t going to be winning any awards for “Best Drum Fill of The Year”, but AC/DC, Led Zepplin, The Who, Hendrix, Aerosmith—all these bands have something in common.

The drums live and breathe with the songs in that there is a groove, a particular swing in the way the beats are performed and without the proper attention to detail, the ‘classic rock’ feel is entirely lost!

Learn With Germany’s Most Booked Studio Drummer - Felix Lehrmann

We brought out the big guns for this one because the one and only Felix Lehrmann (Martin Miller, Sarah Connor, The Flower Kings, Dendermann) sat down with us and showed us to exacting detail how these beats must be played.

You’ll be absolutely shocked at what Felix brings into the conversation with his knowledge and playing ability, let alone his insights when it comes to how programmed drums can be made to sound more realistic.

Felix even managed to completely break Henning’s mind with a particular hi-hat articulation… you’ll see how that was solved, too!

6 Different Styles of Classic Rock

You will learn how to create drums in the style of:

  • AC/DC
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Deep Purple
  • The Who
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Aerosmith

High Quality Drum Video with SLOW-MO

Not only is Felix helping Henning understand how to program the beats, but he’s also right there playing along.

Each style is demonstrated by Felix so that you can hear the real, live feel of an organic classic rock beat.

On top of that, there are specific camera angles with high-quality slow motion showing Felix’s hands, allowing you to catch every dynamic detail that might have been lost if you could only hear the audio at full speed.

How to Put It All Together

As amazing as it was to get Felix into the studio to set us straight on how to properly program classic rock grooves, we went a step further.

We took all that new knowledge and decided to put it to the test with a full song.

Felix laid down some grooves and we put our wrist bands on to see how well we could match the performance.

That entire process is filmed so you can see exactly how to achieve the most realistic, groovy, classic rock drums possible.

Prepare to have your mind blown!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need The Complete Guide to Drum Programming in order to buy this add-on?

Technically speaking, you do not. However, many of the basic principles of drum programming are covered in The Complete Guide to Drum Programming that are not covered in this Classic Rock add-on.

Does this work in any DAW?

Yes, any DAW that allows you to write and manipulate MIDI information with a drum VST will work!

Do I need to use a specific drum sample library to follow along?

No! In this training, Superior Drummer 3 is used with the Eddie Kramer library—however in a later lesson we show how to achieve similar results with different libraries. This training is not built around a single library or workflow and is applicable for any multisampled drum library.

Do I need any musical knowledge to make the most out of this information?

At bare minimum, you will need to know what 8th notes and triplets are—but a complex, deep understanding of music theory or knowledge is not required.
